Morso Diesel Conversion

Morso Diesel Conversion

We understand that some people want the ease of running a stove on diesel, but with the look of a traditional multi-fuel stove. We have created a Morso  Conversion (suitable for the Squirrel & Swift models) so that you are able to have the best of both worlds.

We offer these as conversion kits to adapt your existing Morso Squirrel/Swift, or as a whole unit including complete new Morso stove.

Please contact us for more information.

What is required?

Condition

If opting for the conversion, your existing Morso would have to be in good, usable condition. This would mean no cracks or holes in the outer casing or collar.

If using your existing flue internally, the same would apply.

If there is damage to the bricks, baffle or window these would have to be replaced either prior or during the conversion.

External Flue Pipe

Due to the stove now running on diesel rather than wood/coal, the external chimney would be removed and replaced with a diesel alternative.

As long as the existing roof collar is in good, usable condition, this can remain in situ for use with the conversion.

We supply a 'Deck Flue Kit' that is made up of an adaptor to suit the existing collar, a 0.33m straight pipe and a Lockgate Downdraft Cowl.

Regulator

The conversion kit will have a TOBY DVR Regulator fitted. The placement of the regulator is down to personal preference and can be positioned on either the left or right hand side of the stove (when facing the stove glass from the front). This is the controller for the unit so good access is required to allow for ease of usage and completing any necessary maintenance.

The cleaning needle is fitted alongside this towards the back edge and again will need to be accessible for continued use. This must be pushed in to descale the fuel entry (Frequency will be determined by stove usage) and must be pulled back approx 3-4" when the stove is running. We require approx. 100 - 150mm at the chosen side to allow for these items.

Removal

Your current Morso will need to be removed to allow for the conversion.

If we are completing the conversion for you, this is something we can do at the time of installation should you prefer.

Please discuss with us at the time of enquiry.

Guidelines and Regulations

Despite the stove now operating on diesel rather than wood/coal, it remains a radiant heater therefore the same regulations and guidelines apply as before.

About the kits

Bare Unit

This is essentially the bare bones of the diesel conversion. It compromises the fabricated plate with burner pot and assoctiated items and TOBY DVR Regulator.

Your Morso would have to be removed to allow a hole to be cut in the existing base plate from below. This then allows the diesel conversion to be fitted before re-installing your Morso stove.

This tends to be the most popular option that people go for if we are completing the installation.

Upgrade Unit

This is the above 'Bare Unit' pre-fitted to a Morso Base Plate, meaning the existing base plate can be removed and replaced with the new, converted one.

This tends to be the most popular option when people are completing the conversion themselves.

It is worth noting that the condition and age of the stove can have an impact on how well this will go back together.

Whole Unit

This is a new Morso Squirrel stove which has been readily converted to diesel and is ready to install.

Why convert?

Price

Tradition

Radiant

The Morso Conversion tends to be more cost effective overall than purchasing a new diesel stove. This is due to being able to use your existing internal flue pipe, providing this is in good, usable condition.

Radiant

Tradition

Radiant

With the conversion kit, you are changing the fuel source inside the stove but the way the heat is distributed is the same. This creates a great radiant heat.

Please note: The usual multi/solid fuel stove regulations will apply.

Tradition

Tradition

Tradition

Converting your existing stove allows you to keep the traditional look of your Morso, but with the ease and cleanliness of diesel;

  • Regulate the heat to maintain a continuous output on your desired setting
  •  Remove the need for storing and carrying of wood and coal
  • Less dust and mess produced

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at sales@lockgate.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Yes, the conversion can be used with Morso's fitted with a backboiler. If your current Morso does not have a backboiler, but you would like one fitted, this is something we can do at the time of installation.

Please ask at enquiry stage.

The conversion kits are designed specifically for the Morso Squirrel and Swift models. We do not offer conversions on any other stoves at present.

The maximum heat output for the Morso Conversion is 4.2KW, so very similar to the standard 4.5KW.
